What is required to apply?
All applications go through ERAS and follow its requirements, including:
- CV
- 蝌蚪窝 school transcript
- MSPE
- Personal statement
- Letters of recommendation (minimum of three, four preferred; at least one should be from an Anesthesiologist)
- STEP or COMLEX Scores聽
What is your program application deadline?
Deadline for receipt of full application for consideration for interview is November 1 each year. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and applying after the date that ERAS releases data to the program will decrease the likelihood of receiving an interview invitation.
Do you have a year of graduation limit as I graduated more than 5 years ago?
We do not have a defined limit. Experiences will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Do you have a minimal 鈥渃ut off鈥� Step 1 score? What about USMLE Step 2CK minimum scores? Is there an attempt limit on Step 2 CK?
Our suggested minimum score in 245 on first attempt for Step 2, but we review applications holistically. We do not automatically filter or screen out applications based on a minimum Step 1 (for those who took it prior to pass/fail) or Step 2 score. Generally, we prefer a maximum of two attempts for the Step 2 CK.鈥�

By the time of application, do I need to have Step 2 CK in hand?
No, but it should be added to your ERAS application as soon as it is available, and we will not consider an applicant for an interview until a Step 2 CK score is available. International graduates will also need this to get an ECMFG certificate.

How many total residents are in your program?
We have 87 residents for the 2026-2027 academic year:
- 20 PGY-1 (including one combined Pediatrics-Anesthesiology resident)
- 22 PGY-2/CA-1 (including one combined Pediatrics-Anesthesiology resident)
- 23 PGY-3/CA-2聽(including one combined Pediatrics-Anesthesiology resident)
- 22 PGY-4/CA-3聽
Do you accept IMG at your program?
What is the number of International 蝌蚪窝 Graduates in your program?
Eight, as of the 2026-2027 academic year.
Is there a required USCE duration for applying to your program and is it mandatory for application to be reviewed?
There is no required duration of US clinical experience to apply to begin as a PGY1.
By time of application, do you need me to have my ECFMG certificate in hand?
No, but if you successfully match with us, you must have your ECFMG reported prior to July 1 of the year you will be starting your residency with us.

What application service do you use?
We use the 聽application service.
Can I apply for more than one position type?
Yes.
- Applicants interested in a research position can apply to both the Categorical and Categorical-Research tracks to be considered for either position. Typically, a competitive applicant for this track will have a PhD or a master's degree and/or significant research experience.
- Applicants interested in our Combined Pediatrics-Anesthesiology position can also apply to a Categorical Anesthesiology and/or Pediatrics residency.
- Applicants who have completed at least one year of residency training (intern, transitional, or preliminary year) can apply to both the Reserved and Categorical tracks. Due to the limited number of Reserved positions both in our program and nationwide, this is recommended if you are willing to repeat an intern year to enter the field of Anesthesiology. MCW has no funding limitations that would prevent a resident from repeating an intern year.
What kinds of positions do you offer in the Match (categorical, reserved, etc.)?
Annually, we currently offer:
- Eighteen Categorical positions (to start as a PGY-1) 鈥� NRMP Program Code 1784040C0
- One Categorical-Research position (to start as a PGY-1) 鈥� NRMP Program Code 1784040C2
- Two Reserved positions (to start as a PGY-2) 鈥� NRMP Program Code 1784040R0. Please note you must have previously completed an intern, transitional, or preliminary year in order to apply for this track.
- One Combined Pediatrics-Anesthesiology position (to start as a PGY-1) 鈥� NRMP Program Code 1784726C0
We do not offer Advanced Positions (i.e., to start as a PGY-2 in a future year)
Will you have a Second Look Event?
Yes, for the 2027 Match cycle, we will host a Second Look event on February 27, 2027.
